Best Ways to Clean your Glasses to Keep them Looking New
69
Working at an optical shop for six years, I learned how to take care of glasses and prevent damage. The best way to clean your glasses is to spray the front and back of the lenses and then wipe clear in a circular motion. If you are using pre-moistened towels, you can skip spraying the cleaner.
Best Cleaning Products:
- Pre-Moistened Towels: I suggest only using these when your on the go, because they have a small amount of alcohol in them, which can dry out plastic frames over time. This can be purchased online, at Wal-Mart, and at most optical retailers.
- Micro-fiber Lens Cloth: Used in conjunction with lens cleaner this is a great way to clean your glasses. You always want to wet both sides of your lenses first so you don’t scratch your lenses with debris. If you don’t have lens cleaner use a little water. To wash a micro-fiber lens cloth, you throw it in the wash just don’t use in fabric softener and let it air dry.
- Cotton Lint-free Lens Towels: These can be purchased at most optical shops, and will truly get you the best clean when used with lens cleaner.
- Lens Cleaner: Use lens cleaner with reusable or disposable lens cloths to get super clean glasses. It can purchases at most optical shops and online.
Do NOT:
- Use Windex: the chemical are too harsh and will break down the coating on your lens
- Use Alcohol on Plastic Frames: Over time alcohol will dry out plastic frames leaving the brittle and discolored. If that isn’t reason enough, some types plastic will break if they come into contact with alcohol. Many plastic styles of Rayban, will be destroyed if you get even littlest bit of alcohol on the frame
- Get your Glasses Adjusted just because you happen to be in the mall: Getting your glasses adjusted too many times will wear them down over time. It is especially bad to get your plastic frames adjusted too often, because the plastic has to heat and molded each time.
